The New Light Within (A Personal Testimony)

The scriptures proclaims that:

"The heavens declare the glory of God;

the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

Day after day they pour forth speech; …

Navigating the Thick Night of Darkness

HOW TO FIND YOUR FAVORITE GEORGE FOX QUOTE IN THE DIGITAL QUAKER COLLECTION, SO THAT YOU CAN CITE IT IN SOMETHING YOU'RE WRITING, PONDER IT, TAKE WARNING OR ENCOURAGEMENT FROM IT, OR JUST BASK IN ITS WISDOM, GOODNESS, AND BEAUTY:

Step 1: Say, for example, that you recall that somewhere George Fox wrote the phrase, "in this thick night of darkness that may be felt," and you want to find its source. Go to…

Joy, Joy, and More Joy

Joy, joy, and more joy. But first let me tell you the misery I went through last week--because I didn't follow the will of my Lord last First Day. I was sent to Quaker Meeting to give the true Quaker Message to those who claim to be Quaker but are not because they've never heard the Quaker Message. What they have heard is some other, not-Quaker message.

Quakers of the early Nineteenth Century did not keep under the teaching of Jesus Christ and so Satan got in and snuckered them into…

Truth

It's a blessing to be able to express joy or talk freely of an opening among those who share my religion. I wouldn't belong to this group if it didn't share my religion and understand its doctrines. My experience as a Quaker Christian (I don't like having to say that) has been a lonely one insofar as the different Meetings I have attended or was a member of were not Christian. Middletown Meeting came closest to being Christian.

I had found something so wonderful when I first got hold…

How does one

In Meeting this morning I sat in a different spot so I would be near someone, anyone. I realized what missed greatly about the old Meeting Houses in Pennsylvania were the benches. It seems people were less inclined to sit alone on a bench, but with chairs as seating there's no choice. Were there more people attending early Meeting, I'm sure the sense of isolation would be different. Were there only one Meeting per First Day, nearness to one's neighbors would erase a feeling of isolation, it…

The True Church: A Quaker Approach, Part 1

What do you think the Church is?

One of the distinct aspects of the Gospel of Early Friends, and a matter of faith that George Fox was most clear on, was his conception what it is that constitutes the True Church.

A good starting point to reach clarity on this point is to ask ourselves the question, what is the Church?

Misconceptions

There are many misleading answers offered by various counterfeit versions of Christianity. They tend to…

Don't Ask These Questions:

In this age of toleration there are two questions that are not tolerated. The first question is, "Can you be a Quaker without being a Christian?" One's first impulse, on hearing such a question, is to look about at various groups claiming the name of Christian and to wonder, "Does he think I have to be like that?" This brings us to the realm of the second question. "Can you be a Christian without being a Quaker?"

It is time to define our terms. Christian is…

On Being a Quaker Minister By Michael Langford

ON BEING A QUAKER MINISTER

All Friends that know the light, which is the life in Christ, be faithful in the truth, and spread it abroad; answering the light of Christ in everyone (George Fox, Epistle 337).

There are many forms of ministry and each person in a Quaker meeting will have his or her own form of service.  My subject here is the prophetic ministry of the spoken word.  Anyone may be given something to say during the…
