Reproclaiming the Everlasting Gospel
This is the title of a workshop I would like to give soon. After reading Terry H.S. Wallace's None Were So Clear: Prophetic Quaker Faith and the Ministry of Lewis Benson and Catholic Quakerism by Lewis Benson, I am in the process of creating a workshop for New England Yearly Meeting Friends on the importance of the historical prophetic voice and what the prophetic voice means to Friends, and beyond, today. I've drafted some ideas about this workshop, and would appreciate any ideas others may have about the content and delivery. So far, this is what I have for the description:
"Workshop Description:
Using the example of Old Covenant prophets, early Friends, and the work of Lewis Benson, participants will engage in a multi-media exploration of the prophetic voice of our historical roots as Friends and what this means for the prophetic voice of contemporary Friends in creating the fulfillment of the New Covenant. Through the use of a PowerPoint presentation and large and small group discussions and exercises, attendees will have an interactive experience."
The workshop is supposed to be 2 hours long. I have 24 slides in my PowerPoint already created; however, I'm going to be doing a lot of editing of this and it is by no means complete. I think that may be too many slides because I really want to have experiential exercises that help participants "to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ and to know this love that surpasses knowledge--that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God." (Eph. 3:18) And what this means for Friends and the world.
If you have some ideas about the content or interactive, creative means of delivering content, I'll be working on this til it is delivered. There is a gathering of NEYM Friends on 4/8/17 in Providence, Rhode Island called Living Faith. This is where I hope to share this information. My workshop has to be approved by the Living Faith program committee. I've submitted the preliminary information for review by them. If this workshop is not accepted for this gathering, I'll keep working on it to give at another gathering so please send your suggestions. My email address is reb178@myfairpoint.net .
