I'm the person to send the cheque to. Either a deposit of £40 or £150 the full cost of the weekend. Made payable to the George Fox Fund. I can email you a copy of the application form to send with the cheque, if you like, my email is sarah@eilbeck.org.uk, or I think that Allistair has put a copy on this site that is downloadable.
In friendship,
Sarah
Justin,
I enjoyed, and gained much from , the talk which you gave at Woodbrooke. But I particularly appreciated your response to my question concerning Spinoza. He had been relegated to the back of my mind for some time. However I had just started reading Steven Nadler's book " Spinoza a Life". I was really pleased to see that he goes into some detail concerning the activities of Quakers within the Sephardic community in Amsterdam, and the involvement of Margaret Fell in a tentative "outreach" to the Jews.
This is a subject which I hope to pursue with some vigour.
It seems that the James Nayler affair placed a cloak of uncertainty over the whole affair, although Quaker contact with Jews in England continued.
There is a famous story of the Sephardic Synagogue at Bevis Marks London being built by a Quaker who considered it to be an act of service to God and refused to take any profit. Malcolm
