Some Observations on Revelation 10:5-7

And the angel which I saw stand upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up his hand to heaven, And sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer: But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished, as he hath declared to his servants the prophets…See More

Some Observations on John's Second Epistle

For many deceivers have come forth into the world, who do not acknowledge the coming of Jesus Christ in the flesh; such is the deceiver and the antichrist. Look to yourselves, so as not to lose what we have done but receive your full reward. Whoever breaks forward and does not abide by the teaching of the Christ does not have God; the one who abides by his teaching has the Father and the Son. If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine, do not take him into your house, and do not…See More

On Redemption in John 11

He who expects to arrive at . . . the union of the soul with God, by means of consolation and   comfort, will find himself mistaken. For, having sinned, we must expect to suffer, and be in some measure purified, before we can be in any degree fitted for a union with God, or permitted to taste the joy of his presence. Be ye patient, therefore, under all the sufferings which your Father is pleased to send you. If your love to him be pure, you will not seek him less in suffering than in…See More

On Presumption and Belief in John 11

Of the 21 chapters in John’s Gospel, chapter 11 has been for decades the least interesting to me. It was its scattered quality that put me off: too many characters, most of them contributing only snippets; vignettes that seemed to go nowhere; dialogue that just didn’t connect or flow; inexplicable actions and reactions. Where was the throughline? I asked myself: the coherent theme that took shape with each succeeding verse.

As a narrative, this chapter seemed more like a script out of…

It sounds like it might be well to wait for the 2015 publication to come out before purchasing.  I'll see what I can find out about it.  Thanks, Pat...

Thank you for the welcoming words. Perhaps this is the place to say a few words about myself.

I am a retired speech and language pathologist. I live in San Mateo, California. I was born and raised in Cambridge, Massachusetts and raised as a Roman Catholic. Some twenty five years ago I first learned of Quakerism through chance reading, and became especially interested in the principles and beliefs of early and traditional Friends. I also have an ongoing interest in early Christianity of the first three centuries since even before that time. I can read the Koine Greek of the New Testament.

I have had an association with Ohio Conservative Quakers for some twenty  years. Two years ago I became an affiliate member of Middleton Friends Meeting in Columbiana, Ohio (Ohio Yearly Meeting (Conservative)). But living in San Mateo, California, I attend Palo Friends Meeting, a local liberal Friends meeting.

I look forward to learning more about authentic traditional Quaker teachings and beliefs and participating on this New Foundation Fellowship website.

Thank you for introducing yourself, Henry. I hope you feel encouraged to join in our discussions and to post essays of your own. Please also feel free to comment on any of the earlier posts, if you wish. You've had a long-time interest in early Friends--as have many of us--and I look forward to your contributions.

Some of us also have connections to Ohio YM (Conservative). Terry Wallace is a member there and has been active with NFF for decades, also Arthur Berk. I attended the yearly meeting in Barnesville a few times, and now and then have met with Keystone Fellowship here in Pennsylvania. Also, in 2001, I traveled in the ministry in France with Nancy Hawkins. Jack and Susan Smith have attended our gatherings often. So, there's been quite a bit of overlap.

Again, glad you found your way here!
