Welcome Sarah,

if you are able, perhaps you might like to share a little about yourself and your interest in the Christian Quaker message.

Welcome to the NFF website, Sarah. We would all like to hear something about your interest in the work of the New Foundation Fellowship and about your 95 year old father's interest in our message. Your note left on the webmail was quite encouraging to me.

Hello, my father wishes to share a message with you below, and I'll add mine separately.

"Father's family were Quakers since 1740.  However Grandpa Gill and father left in the 1880's and joined the exclusive Plymouth Brethren. I left the Plymouth Brethren in the 1930's and 'free-lanced' (22 yrs in RAMC then 20 yrs in NHS). In late 70's felt more or less empty spiritually and found myself wondering what it was that made my ancestors tick. Went to a Quaker meeting and found that I had 'come home'. Unable to attend Meetings now I read a lot and became increasingly concerned about direction LYM seems to be taking.  Recently discovered a collection of New Foundation Papers and Lewis Benson writings.  The Everlasting Gospel spoke to my current condition, and I look forward to continuing this present path. In friendship, Donald Gill

Hello from Sarah.  This all takes a bit of thinking about!  Well I attended a Quaker boarding school which was lovely.  But then, curiously like my father, I drifted around for nearly 20 years before finally becoming an International member while living in Mauritius for a decade.  I've since transferred to a local meeting here in North Yorkshire. Still having not a lot in my head, I've just started a distance learning course with the first module on the Old Testament. Having never really read it before (wonder why?) I am now discovering the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and am realising that for example, 1 John 1-4 really cannot be fully understood without the OT. The early Quakers knew their Bibles didn't they?

Sarah, can you give specific examples of what you are running into that opens your understanding of 1 John 1-4? Thanks.
