Monday Night Fox Reading Call for March
Away with the body of death and purgatory! Away with them! Come to the apostles' religion, the true saints! For we are come again to the apostles' days and have that which they had and were in! So we have done with all that hath been set up since the apostles' days and [are come again] to a glorious church which Christ Jesus hath presented to God, that is without spot or wrinkle, or any such thing, but that it should be holy, and without blemish. (Eph. 5:27) This religion was practiced among them then. And so you that are to this come and have a desire and are convinced, come into the practice of this religion that is pure, now.
Perhaps this paragraph sums up all we dealt with on the Monday night Fox Reading Call. We spent some time discussing what Fox meant by the Prince of the Air when he says, "Be subject to him who is the Prince of Life, as you have been formerly to him who is the Prince of the Air, that is, of the airy mind." We dipped into one of Fox's epistles, #32, which we found to be quite rich. However, the above paragraph was a good place to stop until next month. It seemed to bring us home, so to speak.

Fox Epistle 32 is just the one I need right now. IIn my late eighties I am beginning to come to rips with this "airy mind". It veils us from God. Moses, at rge burning bush, and on Siniai remembered God and all prphets call us to this remembrance. This, as Fox says. blots out our self-will -- annihilates or crucifies the self. Then we come to see the whole wonder of creation as the reflection, the breath of the Creator and can live in it and with it properly.

Thanks Michael, I always find Epistle #32 helpful. I also appreciate your thoughts on the breath of the Creator. "Woe to the disobedient children who clothe themselves, but not with my breath..." said Isaiah. It was when I put in that concept of breath into Fox's words (in place of the word "Spirit") in Epistle 32 that I began to catch a glimpse of what he was talking about. I am glad to see that you also are making that connection. Ellis.

Are the Epistles of Fox available online?

Yeshe, There are a couple of places online where the Works of Fox are available. One is put up by Earlham College and the other by an individual in California, Hal Worthington. Hal Worthington has done some modernizing of the language. The Earlham College site seems to have left the text alone. You can choose which way you prefer. And no, I don't have the URL for those, but I hope you can do a search and find them. Ellis.
