Reproclaiming the Everlasting Gospel
HOW TO FIND YOUR FAVORITE GEORGE FOX QUOTE IN THE DIGITAL QUAKER COLLECTION, SO THAT YOU CAN CITE IT IN SOMETHING YOU'RE WRITING, PONDER IT, TAKE WARNING OR ENCOURAGEMENT FROM IT, OR JUST BASK IN ITS WISDOM, GOODNESS, AND BEAUTY:
Step 1: Say, for example, that you recall that somewhere George Fox wrote the phrase, "in this thick night of darkness that may be felt," and you want to find its source. Go to…

Be a Blessing! Be Kind to One Another!
These exhortations from one person to another were common in the holiday season in December 2016 and have continued on into a hard winter in 2017. I have heard them from folks across the religious and political spectrum. It is an unusually cold and wet winter in many parts of North America and political change has many uncertain or even fearful.
These sentiments seem right at first take. I want people to do these things also. But on…

I finally understand what two-edged sword means because I experienced it in action this morning. I stood up in meeting and spoke about George Fox. I related how he would send notice before entering a town or city inviting anyone who feared the Lord to come to meeting. People would come and he would speak truth to them,…

George Fox can write some of the most startling, beautiful, cogent phrases, verses, and passages. Just this morning and yesterday I encountered three things he wrote that I thought profound.
This first one is from Some Principles of the Elect People of God Who in Scorn are called Quakers, which I saw at the Quaker Heritage Press (qhpress.org). The sentence is from VI. Concerning the Cross. "and in that Power of God the…

Only a few weeks ago I wrote that I felt encouraged about the direction I perceived the Meeting going in--at least early Meeting.
Last First Day I was moved by the Lord to speak of salvation; that salvation wasn't for those who had gained it, but for those who were in need of it. That had been a startling opening to me. As I spoke one woman left; the others remained but the atmosphere was charged. I left with but one handshake, and when I got home I asked our Lord Jesus, "Is it time…

I wrote in the margin of my Good News Bible, "I can see G.F. reading this first verse and understanding it in a way different from what he had heard of it in the church." The verse I refer to is Hebrews 9.
The entire chapter was, in fact, opened to me this morning as it had never before been. And my first thought was, this is the chapter that the Spirit opened to George Fox concerning churches and what they are and what they are not. And because I was quickened reading the words, I…

What do you think the Church is?
One of the distinct aspects of the Gospel of Early Friends, and a matter of faith that George Fox was most clear on, was his conception what it is that constitutes the True Church.
A good starting point to reach clarity on this point is to ask ourselves the question, what is the Church?
Misconceptions
There are many misleading answers offered by various counterfeit versions of Christianity. They tend to…

Dear Friends,
A suggestion has been put forward for the establishment of George Fox Reading Group in the UK. This would involve selecting suitable readings from the published works of George Fox and reading them aloud to each other. A similar group already exists in the United States, and this group has run successfully. Becky and Ellis Hein, in the US, are willing to join such a group and help support it.
The suggestion is that this would be done…

We were recently asked to respond to an online discussion.
The point we were asked to respond to was as follows; "Well, my most important question that i asked earlier is that what is so special about George Fox's views and beliefs? From what i understand, he wasn't satisfied with the Anglicans and Catholics of his time and he took matters into his own hand. He started preaching, and sharing the gospel in his own special way!…

Our Friend, Rodney Pharris has posted a very serviceable exposition on Fox and Early Quaker's approach to the taking of outward bread and wine on QuakerQuaker. A useful and well-argued blog that deserves a link from here...

Good Friends:
I work in a book and tea shop so I try to keep track of new books coming out. I see that Cambridge University Press is issuing two new books on George Fox; I believe they are scheduled for later this year, at least in the U.S. They are:
The Short Journals and Itinerary Journals of George Fox
Norman Penny, Editor
ISBN: 1108015328
The Journal of George Fox: 2 Part Set (Revised Edition)
John Nickalls,…
