Mike's Bible Project, John's Prologue

Issue 1JohnPre-Reading NotesThe book of John is written in a completely different way to those of Matthew, Mark and Luke. Most of this book, over 90%, is unique and does not appear in those three other books. John emphasises the spiritual dimension to the faith of Christ and where it is to be found – in Jesus Christ. John also explains who Jesus the Christ is and his relationship with his Father – God. We should also be aware that John, the author of this book is the same apostle John who spent…See More

Mike's Bible Project

Issue 1New Testament Pre-NotesJesus of Nazareth was the man who lived amongst us, learning of and understanding what that meant. The word "Christ" means "the anointed one (of God)" and so when we read of Jesus Christ we should remember that it means "Jesus the anointed one, of God". Often Quakers will speak of Christ Jesus to try to distinguish that it was "the anointed one, Jesus" and not as if "Christ" is likened to a Christian name as we use in today’s times. When the word "Christ" is used…See More

About me

I came to Friends in about 1992 and joined BYM in 1994, and had no other formal religious background. Shortly after coming to Friends I had several personal experiences of Christ which strengthened my faith. Since then I have continued to experience Christ, both personally and as part of worshipping communities within Friends. I have been fortunate to have built lasting relationships with several Friends, both inside and outside BYM. I became involved in the New Foundation Fellowship work about 1997/8 and have been an active worker since then. Although I resigned from BYM about 5 years ago my work with the NFF brings me into regular contact with Friends inside BYM as part of that work.

Just over 3 years ago several (about 7 or 8) Friends set up an Independent Quaker Meeting which is now based in Ripley, Derbyshire and although still small seems to be emerging as a catalyst for other Christian Friends needing to either come in person to meeting, or joining for our worship via the Skype system.

More recently I have been concentrating on starting to build a project around scriptures which I am now begining to post as a blog on this site. I hope Friends, and non-Friends find it helpful in some way.

Reading the Bible

I have used the King James Version (KJV) of the bible in all this work only as it is my personal preference. You may prefer to use a more modern translation and that is completely acceptable, however, it may be useful to have a King James…

My Notes

This work is something that for some time I believe I have been "led by the spirit" to take up. In the Quaker way I have taken this concern to my meeting to seek whether or not it was deemed to be…
